Melvin J. Scales has been a management consulting professional for 25+ years with leading national & international talent management firms, including Meridian Resources & Right Management, as Executive Vice President & Global Senior Vice President respectively. While with Right Management, the human resources consulting global leader in career & talent management, Melvin was selected to the President's Club for consistent excellence & was appointed to its Diversity Leadership team. Melvin has also held several roles in brand management with leading international consumer products organizations such as Hanesbrands, R.J. Reynolds, Anheuser-Busch & Nabisco. Melvin is the published author of a leadership development book entitled “The Top 5 Soft Skills Leaders Need.”
Melvin has lectured in marketing, career management, & ethical leadership at the Graduate School of Business at Wake Forest University. He is currently a board member of the Twin City Development Foundation, the Piedmont Triad Film Commission, Leadership Winston-Salem, Senior Services of Forsyth County, The Baptist Retirement Homes Foundation, & the National Financial Educators Council.
In the past, Melvin was Chairman for Atrium/Baptist Health’s CareNet Psychological Services, Vice-President of Programs for the Winston-Salem Society of Human Resources Management, the Winston-Salem Foundation’s Black Philanthropic Initiative, Leadership Winston-Salem, The Magnolia House Foundation & a board member for the North Carolina Eye & Human Tissue Bank, Forsyth County Mental Health Association, Forsyth County Emergency Management Commission, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities Commission & Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees for Brevard College.
Melvin is a native of Winston-Salem & a graduate of Brevard College, Wake Forest University & a recipient of the Doctor of Divinity degree (Honoris Causa) from Provident University. He is married to Yvette Bishop Scales & they have a daughter Kelli & a grand-dog Shug Avery.
